Vendettas
On further reflection, and with the support of Matty, I would agree that perhaps Matty and Leathers should be swapped putting Leathers as the most exemplary person in the known history of ASUCD.

Additionally, I'd like to address the fact that when I criticize officials for behaviour I don't approve of, there has frequently been a response of you just have a vendetta against them!! Do not confuse me disapproving of actions with me allegedly not liking someone because of their actions and therefore being too biased to comment on their actions (!?).
But moreover, who do I have a vendetta against? Well if I have a vendetta against anyone, its probably Oliver Cromwell, since he's been dead some 350 years but still comes up three times in my list of shadiest people in ASUCD. (= Otherwise, I'll admit I have kind of a pretend vendetta against Paul Harms. But if I WERE to have a real vendetta against someone, it would probably be Sara Henry. I'm pretty sure she had a vendetta against me anyway, and tried to impeach me twice. Note, however, that I ranked her appx 23rd most shady. This is because in my opinion trying to axe someone because you have a vendetta against them is less abusive than trying to axe people merely because they disagree with you. Anyway, as evidenced by my relatively not-bad ranking of Henry, I do not have a vendetta against her and I'd be interested in hearing arguments as to why I have more reason to have a vendetta against anyone else.

7 of 9 people yesterday voted that they thought I was more associated with Lead than Focus .. you guys forget I was a Focus appointee, hah! (but really I am solidly of no party) Also 10 of 10 of you said you expected more Focus than Lead on the list, whereas I counted 7 Lead and 3 Focus on it. But then again, none of you remember how Lead used to be.

That Which is Not Sanctioned is Forbidden
Someone brought my attention to an Aggie article today about how the Gofers have been pushing definitions of soliciting in the dorms. But I find what they did not as comment worthy as these comments about it:
"They have every right to go out and talk about ASUCD, but they should have gone through the appropriate avenues by talking to the executive office and president," said Kevin Powers, chief of staff for the executive office.

"[GO] never contacted the executive office about ASUCD outreach," said ASUCD Controller Paul Harms.

Fortunately this reporter knew to ask the right questions:
However, Powers also noted that slates are not required by ASUCD bylaws to inform the executive office of their ASUCD outreach activities.

"We're under no obligation to inform LEAD about everything we do," Friedman said

Seriously though, since when do members of Congress have to get George W Bush's permission to do outreach? (Maybe Harms should intern for the white house to give them some ideas)

Endorsements
Now that I can, several people have approached me about endorsing student government candidates. Several people and Steve Ostrowski several times. Anyway, I have found a candidate I would like to endorse:

Endorsement-Like Statements! )

Trivia of the Day!
Which famous person once said "I rationalized the "final solution" because the government had to keep on functioning."?

aggienaut: (gavel)

In my five years of involvement in ASUCD, I have seen a lot of extremely shady antics. As I’ve mentioned before, I do not believe power corrupts, I believe power allows the already-prone-to-corruption to show themselves. There are a lot of scandals in real government, and students love to point these out – but what most people don’t realize is that its not because the people involved in our government are more prone to corruption than your average person – its that they have much greater opportunities (and are under much much greater scrutiny, thus revealing every indiscretion).
That said, I believe what ASUCD does is show us how badly your average ambitious person behaves when given a little bit of power. Or at least, when not behaving downright badly, it really exhibits how much their perspectives change to what is convenient for them.

The Good List
Unfortunately, those with exemplary good ethical standards don’t necessarily stand out the way bad ethics do. I would like to start on a good note however, by mentioning those who have impressed me with their ethics:

Surprisingly Admirable:
(ii) Ari Kalfayan )

(i) Nafeh Malik )

Exemplary Nonstudents:
(ii) Don Dudley, SJA & CJB )
(i) Mark Champagne )

Actually Exemplary:
(5) Go Funai )
(4)
& (3) Justices Powers & Wheat )
(2) Jon Leathers )
(1) Aggie Editor-in-Chief Matty Jojola )

It should be noted, that I cannot account for the most EFFECTIVE people in ASUCD, since I am not in a position to judge how well people are running the busses or running GASC etc etc. The above is a list of those who have had the opportunity to show exemplary ethics (or at least, for the group above that, have more value than people give them credit for). And below, below is a list of the most lacking in ethics.

ASUCD’s Most Ethically Misguided

Mildly Annoying:
(iv) Paul Harms )
(iii) Kalen Gallagher )
(ii-i) Sara Henry & Paloma Perez )

Ethically Dysfunctional:
(22) Thomas Lloyd )
(21) Anyone who, during their term, abandoned or defected from the platform they were elected on )
(20) Jamie Ackerman )
(19) Chris Goran )
(18) Mary Vasquez )
(17) Aggie Reporter Talia Kennedy )
(16) Aggie Reporter Aimee Theron )
(15-11) Aggie Editor-in-Chiefs Vo, Whelan, Fuller, Stone & Hamilton )
(10) Andrew Peake )
(9) Kai Savaree-Ruess )
(8-6) The Unqualified Candidates )
(5) Rob Roy )
(4) Kristen Birdsall )
(3) Chief Justice Turner )
(2) Vice President Beaman )
(1) Tiqula Bledsoe )
(BONUS) Bonus! )

And now… I probably have significantly more enemies. It should be noted that I think many of the people mentioned above are very nice people in general. In particular I feel a bit torn about the “Unqualified Candidates” themselves because they all turned out to be pretty nice people and kept themselves out of any further shadiness that I know of, but it would be hard to justify not including them on the list.
Anyway, my hope in posting this is that people who are just becoming involved in ASUCD will read it and keep in mind what NOT to do in the future.

Daviswiki officially has the Aggie's pictures of the upcoming ASUCD presidential candidates up before the Aggie does, such sauce!

Today user "SenateScandal" started commenting again on the contentious "Budget Hearing Scandal" (which I believe had been deleted previously). This time the situation became even more apocalyptic than before, with user "DPSforLife" eventually posting serious incriminations against most of the members of Senate (note, anonymous names such as these are extremely rare). Just a FEW of these allegations (quoted verbatim) are (and keep in mind I make no claims whatsoever on the veracity of any of these):

  • Former Senator Sean Ruel is a former drug dealer, has used steroids, beat his former girlfriend, and snorted cocaine on regular occasions.
[other reports indicate he sold people patently bad drugs]
  • Adam Barr had an intimate relationship with former Aggie reporter Aimee Theron
  • Donald Cohen-Cutler had an intimate relationship with former Aggie Reporter Aimee Theron, hmm media bias maybe.
  • Paloma Perez is heavily involved in Swords and Sandals, and smoked marijuana during the student funded ASUCD retreat. She also has a clitoral peircing.
  • Former president Sarah Henry frequently used the executive office on the 3rd floor of the MU to have sexual intercourse with several ASUCD members including former senators. She is also a member of Swords and Sandals.

  •    The entry has since been deleted. If it has been resurrected, it would be here.

This posting caused such a stir that not long after the editing began I received a frantic call from the senate office on campus from a Senator who wanted to know what I knew about the situation and the legality of it all. Apparently over on the third floor the entry had caused mass panic.
Incidently at this moment Senate has just begun for the day. For once I have no business there and can actually make use of my Thursday evening. I'd like to see the current state of everyone though (keep in mind nearly all of them were named in a devastating way in the entry).

A major continuing topic of discussion on that page is why the Aggie never picked up on the Budget Hearing Scandal (that certain Senators smoked the cannabis during budget hearings). One source associated with the aggie points out this timeline:
    1. While Aimee
[Theron] was at The Aggie, she covered senate stuff, including the meetings
  • We did try to gather enough evidence to do a solid story on this, and Nafeh came in for a one-on-one with a manager
  • The story died
  • [see allegations 2 and 3, above]
  • Aimee no longer works at The Aggie

  •    Also this whole thing caused me to make a nerdy entry on the Wiki Ethics page (currently last entry - look for US v Spinelli in bold).

Also Dyanna Quizon is back on the list of people allegedly involved in the Budget Hearing Scandal.

Year Ago - This Livejournal Discussed by ASUCD Senate!!
A year ago last Saturday this very livejournal was discussed by the ASUCD Senate in my second impeachment hearing in as many weeks. The next day I made a groundbreaking livejournal entry intended for the officers of ASUCD.
       Some highlights from that entry:
"...in testimony against me it was said that I "run a website...," implying I operate some unique news source named incriminatingthings.com or something. I think by any legitimate definition of "run," I do not "run" livejournal.com nor this particular journal. This is one of millions of journals on livejournal.com, one of 1,464,791 in fact."
"And finally, you recall hearing read a comment by one "shid" who said "I suggest death." He has an official response for you: "Miss Henry, that quote refers to [my] inability to get laid, and has nothing to do with court proceedings. If any cute girls want to visit [me] at LMU in Los Angeles, see [Kris] after this trial." I must say, I never thought Sean's sex life would be discussed in ASUCD Senate.
Other livejournalists also were pulled into the situation, with livejournal's [livejournal.com profile] pavelthegeek quoted during the senate meeting as calling then ASUCD president Sara Henry "probably a bitch." In what may have been my first interaction with current roommate [livejournal.com profile] wdsguy, he commented to a relevant entry stating that Sara Henry was a "hottie."

As Sara Henry has long since ceased to be an officer of ASUCD (I swore in her successor just as I did her, and very likely I'll swear in her successor's successor...), I can now safely speculate on her and other relevant former officials.
I don't think Miss Henry was evil per se, I honestly believe she just couldn't handle the concept of separation of powers and that she was not my boss.
Also I'd like to mention Senator Gina Lee (whom [livejournal.com profile] wdsguy still fondly remembers as being in his opinion "extremely hot" btw). If it weren't for her absense at the first hearing I would have been removed. I'm still not sure whether she intentionally left before my hearing or it was an "unfortunate" coincidence for them. She'd always struck me as a particularly independant senator for a member of one of the parties. Anyway I think they got her to completely obey the party lines by the second hearing, but by then the majority of the party thought it was a pile of crap and voted against my removal.

    AMWEST Las Vegas
From Friday morning to Tuesday evening I was engaged in the Model UN adventure known as AMWEST. Well, about 20 hours of that was in driving there and back.
The Honourable Under-Secretary-General/Director Mr. Nishan Bhaumik and I were originally going to set out at 8am on Friday, but we ended up leaving just after noon. About twenty minutes later we were being pulled over in Elk Grove.
But Nishan used his special Nishan skills and the officer left, feeling satisfied. I thereupon took control of the vehicle. Three hours later Nishan was feeling zesty again so he took over once more, but two hours went by and he started seeing things so I was back at the wheel until just before we arrived at Vegas sometime after 9pm.
So I was in Vegas then. First off let me say I hate vegas. Now gambling, I think gambling should be maintained legally, at least in certain places, as it is a great way to tax the foolish. Needless to say, I like to retain my money and not subject it to aleatory risks.
And on the money note, Davis MUN recommended to their delegates to expect to spend a ridiculous amount of money, totalling $180 for the weekend (just for food, shopping, alcohol). I myself think I spent maybe $20 TOTAL this weekend on food.
Anyway, from the start I vowed not to leave the hotel except for food. And I'm proud to report that I was successful in that.

And best of all was the free breakfast every morning - omelettes, eggs, etc, made to order! Only at AMWEST of all MUN conferences to I spring out of bed eagerly in the morning with ample time for foraging.
Also the hotel had "happy hour" with free drinks from 5:30 to 7:30 every day. Dinner break started at 5:30 every day. And people wondered why there was a problem with intoxicated delegates every evening.

    Quotes
Chairman Fricke: "The dias would like to announce that any delegates who are intoxicated to the point that they cannot maintain decorum will be kicked out and will bring shame upon their descendants for generations to come"
Delegate of Equitorial-Guinnea: "Point of information - how many generations?"
       Chairman Fricke: "Six"

Chairperson Janet Rossi: "if you kiss a banana slug it starts secreting stuff"
Governor-General Josh Collins: "You kissed a banana slug?"
Chairperson Rossi: "hey it was in sixth grade!"
Chairman Fricke: "was it your first kiss?"

Unknown Chairperson: "I'm not on a power trip!"
Unknown Director (from same committee as above): "You've got the gavel in your pocket!" (at Baja Fresh)
USG/Director Bhaumik: "or IS that a gavel in his pocket?"

       Delegate: "Zambia withdrawls the motion"
Chairman Fricke: "The dias extends its condolences"

And best of all, I'm in the little store in the hotel, purchasing a red bull, when a delegate comes in and asks the cashier under his breath "do you sell condoms?" (they don't). Maybe I'm judgemental but he didn't look like the kind of individual who normally would expect a lot of action so it was even funnier. I guess committee was going well for him.

Also, Canada and Burma were on our roll call sheet even though we were the African Union.

Nishan and I chaired African Union, with around 35 delegates in it. Conference evaluations in the end indicated that we were "two of the most wonderful people on the planet" and also "sexy beasts."
I got a ride home on Tuesday from Secretary-General Josha Crabtree. At one point earlier in the weekend it appeared all passes into northern california may be snowed in, and I might for the first time in my life miss classes on account of being snowed in, but by the time Tuesday came about I was fortunate enough to get home without incident.
       The End.

So yesterday I'm standing outside the Ralph Nader speaking event talking to noted republican George Andrews when on the subject of politics someone I don't know says to me "you're an anarchist aren't you?" Then aggie reporter Stan Obklobzija asked me if I knew where rabid communist John Green1 was and if I had anything to do with the Nader event.

1If you could cross communism with rabies, John Green would have it.

Former ASUCD President Sara Henry accused me of being a member of the green party in a newspaper interview, the ASUCD Ethnic & Cultural Affairs Commission once discussed whether or not I'm a republican. I dunno somehow it just seems to me to be very unclassy to clearly belong to a particular political stereotype. Anyway, time for a poll:

Also we had an entertainment council meeting yesterday. I was actually given another title to add to my collection - I was declared to have the glorious title of "head grip."
Also while brainstorming bands we want to bring to campus I plugged Momsex. The rest of you should help bring the ingenius creators of Zombies v Pirates to our campus by telling [livejournal.com profile] blushbystander how awesome they are over and over again.

    Making News Again
THIS article about me in the aggie tomorrow (Thursday) is not altogether pleasing to me. I got rather the impression that the reporter, having already talked to Sara Henry and Paloma Perez, was already rather hostile towards me, the court, the cases, and the green party, before talking to me. I hoped that after sitting through a Court meetings and seeing that we were nice people she would soften towards us, but apparently not.

Article Summary: Paloma Perez & Sara Henry expressed to the aggie their intention to question my ability to be unbiased on Case # 24. To avoid controversy I have removed myself from that case.

When I first got the email monday that the aggie wanted to take my picture for an article, I knew it wasn't going to be a good thing. Over the course of the week I became more concerned about this, particularly once it was confirmed that the whole thing was about whether or not I should sit on the case.

Court meetings always cheer me up though. I get piles of crap from everyone about court stuff, and then I finally meet with the other justices, all of whom have stood together in every major decision of my administration. It was very nice to hear them joking about how they won't be able to do cases without me and if I ever was removed they'd all resign in protest. I was hoping the respect the court members have for me would have some effect on the reporter, but apparently she was unphased by it.
Also I agreed to do the administrative work to put on Case # 24, even though I won't be party to it. It would have been nice to get out of it, but I just cannot picture the case being put on adequately without my involvement. I'd like to work on training others to do that though so that when I'm gone things don't fall apart.

    Compare & Contrast: Case # 24 & 25,
So this morning I get a call around 10am informing me that another Court case was filed in SGAO. I go up to the third floor and get the case documents. Then around 1pm I get another call.. ANOTHER case was filed.

The Defendants (and Defendant offices) listed:
    Case # 24:
Vicki Swett, Alex Park (Creative Media, SGAO)
Case # 25: Vicki Swett, Mark Champagn, Ceative Media (Creative Media, SGAO)

Listed "brief description of the arguments Plaintiff will make":
    Case # 24:
"The Defendants are not acting in the letter or spirit of the amendment [Constitution Article II, Section 5 & Article III Section 3.2], specifically the clause that provides for an independant count. This makes it nearly impossible for any one to analyze the data, putting the data to print on 800+ pages, available only while in the SGAO office, when a computer program is required. This violation undermines the integrity of the system because it prevents public oversight and transparency.
Case # 25: "SGAO failed to make the documents [ASUCD Constitution, Judicial Codes, Standing Rules, Government Codes, etcitera] stated within the bill [2003 Senate Bill # 48] online as of the stated date of September 2003. Specifically, the Director of Creative Media, Alex Park, and the Student Government Advisor, Vicki Swett, failed to decide how to implement this bill as stated in Section 2 of SB48."

The ASUCD Court has yet to decide whether or not it shall accept these cases, and shall likely not do that until next quarter (as only three academic days remain in this quarter). We here at Emosnail attest that the above information has been objectively transcribed from the filed documents and does not imply any opinion of anyone but the Plaintiffs. The Defendants are assumed innocent until proven guilty.

    Swearing Kalen
Today I replaced ASUCD President Sara Henry with ASUCD President Kalen Gallagher, by swearing him and Vice President, Paloma Perez into office. This of course is the second ASUCD President (& VP) that I've sworn into office.
Sara Henry is no longer in office ...that means I can talk about her now. ...but I don't think I will. I maintain however that the campaign to unseat me was completely bogus and motivated by all the wrong reasons. Shame on all those involved.

Yesterday was the quarterly State of the Court address at ASUCD Senate.
I'm told that while I was reading our verdict from recent case # 23, President Sara Henry was grimacing hatefully. A number of the City Council candidates happened to be at the meeting, including former ASUCD Senator (from 1997), current UCD grad student & Aggie humor columnist Lamar Heystek. He told me that in his seven years of involvement in ASUCD he has never seen a Court that "could write Opinions like that."
Most disturbing of all though, Heystek informed me that he had filed a case in the fall of 2002, which never went anywhere. Apparently the then Chief Justice (Katarina something) never returned any emails or phone calls... no response from the Court could be gotten at all. This is what I'm talking about when I say that the Court did NOT exist as a functioning entity previous to this. I wonder if his case is still pending.

Also I just learned from a former Elections Committee member that last election they were considering compelling evidence that if accepted could disqualify the "Student Focus" candidates from the election, & ASUCD Advisor Vicki Swett told them not to accept the evidence because it would "create drama and controversy." This former committee member said they felt that what occured was very wrong but were unable to do anything about it because the hearing was confidential and they were thus forbade from talking to the Aggie or writing a case. Now that they're not on the Elections Committee they'd like to do something about it, but all evidence is still confidential and most witnesses are still on the committee. I am going to investigate legal recourses.

       Real update will come soon.

At a Press Conference Wednesday evening UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef made reference to "the Emosnail journal," in response to questions about ways he keeps in touch with student life and ASUCD activities.

Initially listed as one of several ways the Chancellor keeps up with student affairs, he elaborated that "there really was no accurate way to get a feel for the sum of activity within ASUCD until we discovered the Emosnail Journal. The staff at Emosnail really tell it like it is in a fair and impartial manner." He also commended the UC Davis livejournal community as a source of a wider range of more opinionated views. When asked if he was aware of the attempt to remove the ASUCD Chief Justice based on material in the Emosnail Journal, Vanderhoef explained "yes I'm aware of that, and I think it underscores the vital importance and relevance of the journal to ASUCD and the campus at large."

There was no other discussion of the journal during the press conference, but afterwords an Emosnail field operative happened to overhear some further informal discussion.
"I think it really brings the government closer to the students than it's ever been before. What'll happen now, for example, when Pavel Ivanov [quoted in the Senate and Aggie for calling the ASUCD President a "bitch"] runs into [ASUCD President] Sara Henry in the hall? Or what about "wdsguy" for that matter?" The Chancellor went on to discuss such tangent issues as Vice President Kalen Gallagher's hairstyles, his high opinion of the efforts of the ASUCD Environmental Planning Commission, speculation as to whether there'd be more closed sessions at the following Thursday (12/04/03)'s ASUCD Senate meeting, and his personal opinion of a number of the people and events portrayed in the Emosnail Journal.

    aggienaut: (asucd)

    Dear ASUCD Senators & Officers,
Since I know a great many of you will read this entry I will take the opportunity to address you while I have your attention. I feel a really didn't testify very well this time so I thought I'd say some things I didn't get a chance to.
At the request of a Senator I have removed a number of recent entries from the public sphere. You have probably seen them already as circulated during my hearing, but if you have not yet seen them and would like to, ask me and I will show you a physical copy regardless of whether I have reason to expect you aspire to incriminate me. By now even those of you most opposed to me must be realizing that I have an absolute dedication to the truth.
Click here for full text of address )

Anyway, I'll spare you any more arguments, only a third of the senate voted for my removal this time anyway. I'm sorry the rest of you must suffer the same discredit this fiasco no doubt will reap from the public. But there are actually benefits from this we must not forget: many of you (well if you are reading this it probably includes you) have now read sizeable parts of my personal journal and that I'd imagine will give you a picture of my personality and life more accurate than you ever would have gotten otherwise, altogether it has increased the legitimacy, power, and public-awareness of the Student Court and their recent decisions, it gave me a lot of material to write about on my 6 page legel-theories paper, and for (I hope!!) the first time, livejournal was formally discussed at Senate (I call this a Good Thing just because I can't get over how funny that is).

    Sincerely,
       The Emosnail Editorial Staff

We here at the Emosnail have also been encouraged to point all persons involved in ASUCD to THIS ENTRY, written by another individual I think you'll find you all know and cherish.

IMPORTANT: please be aware that even without a livejournal account you can leave an "anonymous" comment to this entry, or any other entry of my livejournal, or most other people's livejournals. I would appreciate it if any ASUCD visitors would leave some kind of comment. Thanks, I love you all. But not in a way that violates my impartiality.

And finally, you recall hearing read a comment by one "shid" who said "I suggest death." He has an official response for you:
"Miss Henry, that quote refers to [my] inability to get laid, and has nothing to do with court proceedings. If any cute girls want to visit [me] at LMU in Los Angeles, see [Kris] after this trial."
I must say, I never thought Sean's sex life would be discussed in ASUCD Senate.

TO THOSE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT:
In case you haven't caught on yet: Kris Fricke was considered for the second consequetive time in about a week for removal from his position as Chairman of the ASUCD Court. The evidence brought against him entirely consisted of this livejournal, and comments others had made to it. I think the main lines of argument are evident in this entry already.

This entry and others may refer to actual events experienced by one or more individuals in first person. This is entirely for stylistic reasons and does not imply any particular identity to belong to this journal. Incidentally you will find that nothing in this entry or any other constitutes a judicial impartiality on any matter that may face a court. Thank you.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong this morning. My alarm didn't go off at 0850 as it should have, I guess I was delirious when I set it. So I wake up just in time to get to campus right before Russian at 1100, but since I have to print out the six page POL154 paper I wrote the night before I'm gonna miss half of Russian... but THEN I get to the comp lab and realize I didn't email my paper to myself, so I cannot print it out. I proceed to just barely miss a bus back, finally spend about two hours between busses coming and going, and 5 mionutes uploading the paper, to print it out and turn it in at 1330 for the class that started at 1210.

From there things got better though. I got a call from a reporter from the Aggie because I guess they decided to do a feature on the Court, so I'm going to be interviewed tomarrow. Excellent. Apparently the Aggie reads my livejournal as well. So THATS where they get their news. Also I finally was able to return the call of the Davis Enterprize reporter today (they called Friday morning but I was hella busy all day Friday and the office was closed on the weekend).
Once again, the article that was in the paper today.

I had intended to schedule a meeting with Sara Henry today, but the government office (SGAO) told me they don't schedule for her and I should email her. I get to a computer and have an email from SGAO saying "oh wait we do sorry." So I'll have to do that tomarrow. Another quote from the SGAO employee that was there at the time: "the bartender's at the Cantina are always asking me to help them in the walk in refridgerator, and then I'm like, 'why are you shoving your tongue down my throat?' they're so silly. At least they give me mad deals on drinks. I guess its sort of a low grade prostitutions but eh I don't care." Ah government officials, you gotta love them.

Last week I had four midterms and an ASUCD Senate Hearing. Consequently I wasn't very abundant last week.
Then I chaired for CCCMUN conference on Friday and Saturday, that experience is detailed here.

As regards the Senate hearing, I had terminally pissed off the ASUCD President, Sara Henry so she had the Senate consider my removal as head of the Court.
Unfortunately in calling for a removal hearing on someone the plaintiff does not need to make any specific charges against the defendant in order to hold the hearing, something which quite obviously is not in keeping with long-standing theories of western law ("cause of action"). So I did not know the charge until I arrived there. Removal hearings are by default closed hearings, but I motioned for it to be public. I fear not the truth.
Rather than make a strong case against me, President Henry opted to try for sheer number of charges, and charged me with everything she could possibly concieve of, coming up with I think about a dozen extremely poor cases against me.
The obvious response to this mongolion horde strategy was simply to similarly show a large number of valid rebuttals, and thoroughly refuted each claim.
Definitely the highlight of my day was the result of the "notification" line of arguments. In cases before the ASUCD Court one must notify the campus media 3 days in advance of the case, its time and location, among other things. In Case #21 earlier this quarter, I had notified them of everything except the location, as it had not yet been set. The Defendant cited that as a reason why the case should be dismissed, and even though it was obviously immaterial because an Aggie reporter was present, we sustained the objection and dismissed the case. Miss Henry declared that that was a sign of incompetence and ignorance of the codes on my part. In response I pointed out that she had not notified ME of the very hearing we were then in in a correct manner, as I'd never been telephoned as it says I must be in the Codes. I was quite explicit that I did not wish for the hearing to be dismissed on those grounds however. I didn't need to look over at her to know that she was immediately mortified by the revelation. The case went on and eventually the Senate dismissed everyone so they could deliberate.. then they reopened the hearing from deliberations because Miss Henry wished to testify again. She proceeded to argue that since I was clearly present and clearly had known of the hearing, that the fact that I was incorrectly notified was not significant. This of course was just walking straight into the argument I had earlier made. So in my rebuttal to that I reiterated that I had NOT been asking for the case to be dismissed, I was merely making a point, and by the exact same logic Miss Henry had just brought up, the Court hearing should not have been dismissed. Considering that altogether she was accusing ME of not being sufficiently respectful of the Codes, that whole argument tremendiously favored me.

Also she claimed the email I'd sent her was "threatening." After she read the email the Senate was like "uhh," and Senator Menezes asked "what exactly is threatening about that email?"

I can't wait until I get the official transcript, which hopefully will be available tomarrow. I look forward to working with Miss Henry in the future. Not too enthusiastic about seeing government advisor Vicki Swett though, because while she no doubt is equally enthusiastic about removing me and destraught over the failure to do so, unlike Henry, Swett will pretend to be my best friend when next I see her. Sickening.

The final vote went along party lines I believe. It was 7-4-1, I'm guessing 7 Focus votes for my removal, with one abstention, and four Lead votes for my retention (President Henry belongs to the Focus party of course).

The Aggie Article Regarding the Same! By "could not be reached for comment," they mean no effort was made to do so. They had my phone number and I recieved no phone call. I think bashing the aggie is over-rated (The government officials do it whenever they are mentioned, and no doubt will find reason to do so in response to this as well), but I would have appreciated it if they really had made an effort to contact me.

So this weekend I went on the ASUCD Leadership retreat to Tahoe. Then I came back and wrote this entry. Then after it was nearly done I tried to click back to it from an aol dialogue box, accidentally hitting "livejournal FAQ," which opened a new page, and the whole entry was lost. I am now in a very very bad mood. You will now get the I-already-wrote-this-once version. )=Nadia and Shemek (a third unitrans manager was with us as well).
"We should seperate the driver from the rest of us so we're all technically in the trunk and can drink!" - Elections Committee Chair Mary Ball. Needless to say, we drank anyway.*
There were 16 people on the bus up. The politicians and government officers chatted happily, while the commercial unit managers sat in awkward silence.
Up at tahoe we had three condoes, declared the main one, the quiet one, and the late night one. I of course immediately declared sovreignty over the loft of the latter.
That first night we all partied like whoa. It was pretty cool. Chief of Staff Behzad (last name?) is a party animal. Then we went to the hot-tub. Security chased us out but told us we should go to the more secluded one at the other end of the complex. Yea. "what happens in the hot-tub STAYS in the hot-tub" Unfortunately some keys stayed in the hot tub as well...
After walking back, Public Opinion Polls Committee chair Russ Fagely realized he had lost his wallet. Simulteniously I realized I had lost a key. So we retraced our steps.. eventually found a key in the hot-tub. It was for building 483 though and I was definitely in 484. Psha on that. Russ eventually tracked down his wallet.. and eventually I discovered that I had in fact originally been given a 483 key. So it all fit together.

The next day we did various team-building excercises most of the day. A large flow chart of the ASUCD heirarchy was unveiled ("now you can see how we're all connected... OTHER than on friendster.com!" -ASUCD President Sara Henry).. and it was prominently missing the Supreme Court!! I immediately got another peice of butcher paper, wrote "STUDENT COURT" really big with sharpie, and put it in the approprate position (level with "senate" and "president" on the top level).
I was very very disappointed to learn that "ASUCD Refridgeration Services" does NOT operate vast room-sized industrial walk-in refridgerators at some secret location on campus. Vice President Kalen Gallagher agreed with me that they SHOULD do this, stating "I sense a senate bill coming up!"
We also had a workshop on "diversity training." "how many of you have been professionally objectified for money."

That night the prevailing opinion was that we should go to the casinos to eat, and then come back and proceed with the getting drizunk. That turned into gamble until we're seated at the restaurant in harrahs, eat, and eventually gamble the rest of the night. I don't gamble, so this wasn't my preferred turn of events.
A few of us managed to pass the time beforehand by searching for alcohol. The casino of course had some.. at an exorbitant price. Finally we found a gas station two blocks down that was fully stocked (As opposed to the closer one with none), and Jenna in her frenzy for alcohol didn't even see the large "alcohol liscense suspended!" signs. No alcohol there for us. Finally we found some at a grocery store a little further on.
After we ate I managed to escape the casinos before too long. But not before the somewhat drunk manager of Special Transportation Services (STS) and Tipsy Taxi asked me: "I'm sorry if I'm a bit blunt right now but... you dress different from everyone else, don't you." I don't know I thought that was funny.
So yea. KDVS Director Teresa, executive staff Event Coordinator Jenna Zelman and I caught a shuttle back to central control. Teresa went to bed immediately and Jenna and I watched TV till ASUCD Controller Jon Avidor returned at like 2am. Then I went back to my place and went to sleep. At 4am everyone else got back, and unitrans Planning and Marketing Manager Shemek Pawlik came up to tell me everyone was drinking. I actually considered joining them briefly before rolling over and going to sleep.

Events Sunday were cancelled because too many people had left. Of probably 40+ people at the workshops on Saturday, only around 18 survived till Sunday morning. We never did find out what happened to the mysterious Mark Champaign, secret overlord of ASUCD. We slept in a bit, then Russ Fagely and I watched the end of Red October on TV, we all packed up and fled. The End.
