My friend Mark and I. That mustache he has is REAL!! I'm quite envious.
And you can't really tell but I'm holding a sword.

Eureka! I have decided what/who I am going to be for Halloween: "Chris Hansen, Dateline NBC," the host of "To Catch a Predator"!!!

I can't wait to walk around with fake chatroom transcripts and confront my friends with hilariously awkward quotations I'll make up on the spot and allege they said. And he's got so many other silly mannerisms and trademark phrases ("the computer internets!!"), its going to be excellent!

In other news, I can't see the fire through all the smoke, and haven't been able to find an updated map today, but I'm told it was up to 50% contained, and then dropped back down to 30% late yesterday, and is spreading to the south-east and north from where it was yesterday. Yesterday after work my car looked like it'd been snowed on there was so much white ash on it.

Kristy & the MacIntyre Sisters

Kristy visited this Weekend, which was awesometastic. She came in on a 10:35pm flight Friday night and I met her at the aeroport with a salad from Plutos.
Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market and had various Davis-related adventures before the party at the Foyerhouse that evening. Kristy made delicious cupcakes for the party. In addition to the cupcakes, there were four pumpkin pies, jello shots, beer cans, a keg of beer, and Dave marauding with the beer bong.
Kristy went as a St Pauli's Girl / German Girl, I went as Alex from Clockwork Orange. C-Bunch was a ninja that spoke out of sinc, Olivia was a girl in a red dress, Vater was a viking... Anthony Soto showed up with his girlfriend and they were both toys from toy story. Apparently Anthony largely made both costumes from scratch, crafty!
Sunday morning Kristy & I ate at Crepeville and tried to do as many Davis-related things as possible before she had to catch her 8:30pm flight back to San Diego. )=

On Halloween itself I decided to be one of those people who goes to class in costume. Every year I think about it but chicken out, so I decided to go for it. It was kind of awkward because only one out of every 100+ people was in costume. Additionally it turns out a lot of people have no idea what clockwork orange is so I got some weird guesses as to who I was. In my Brewing class however there was actually another Clockwork Orange person ... and as luck would have it he wasn't even the same character as me (Alex), because his friend had been Alex.

Someone I ran into said "oh so you're dressed as yourself for halloween?" To which I said "What? NO! I definitetly do NOT normally wear a hat!"

Seconds before I harassed Professor Bamforth about spelling "Flavor" wrong.
It clearly should be "Flavour" (and as a proud Englishman he should certainly know this)
He stole my hat in retribution

On Saturday Kristy and I went to the party at the Loyola House, which was awesome. Kristy and I hadn't been to a party there in over a year (it used to be the premier party location in Davis). Kristy went as a cheerleader and I wore my black grim reaper cloak as an ambiguous halloween costume. If anyone asked we were going to say we were the Tiger Army song "Who killed the Cheerleader?," but no one asked (which I guess validates the ambiguity of the costume).
Today, Monday, Halloween itself, there was a party at the Baxter House, an old abandoned house near the Davis airport. This was excellent because that place is only about a furlong from my apartment. It was due to start at 11pm, and as last time they tried to have a party there it got broken up with tremendous asaptitude I wanted to get there as soon as possible.
Unfortunately I didn't even get back from campus until 11. And then I frantically searched for my cloak to no avail (turns out it was at Kristy's). Quickly I delved into my closet and assembled some kind of Soviet military costume. I think this actually turned out better than my Ambiguous Halloween Costume, but I did the Soviet military thing last year (file photo).
The Baxter House it turns out is armed with a massive stockpile of old printer paper. Several people began filling a room with this, which at first seemed rather juvenile and vandalistic to me, but then turned out quite awesome when we had a huge pile of paper to frolick in.
Tomorrow I'm going to go back out there and clean up any bottles and cans that were left behind.

Halloween Weekend 2005

In Other News: This thing really creeped me out. It looked like it was staring at you no matter where you were. I heard a rumour that was Arjun in there?

Alright, so back to the Prehistory Series (on notable events previous this livejournal). October 1999: My best friend Alberto and I had been jocking these two girls Elena & Oakley all week and they invited us hang out with them on Halloween, which was Sunday.

We picked up the girls near Elena's place (in the void of the north-east corner of this map) and then proceeded with them to Oakley's place (which I think was in Laguna Hills, in the center of that map). There we just kind of hung out. Oakley's parents were around, which kind of freaked me out since her dad was my math teacher. But they mostly kept out of our way.
And while she and I were outside by ourselves I asked her out, and she therefore became my first girlfriend.

And then, Elena's parents caught on that something was afoot. And I believe, Alberto and I didnt' even know anything was a foot. But it turns out the girls had executed a harebrained scheme of their own.
Elena's parents, you see, are not her parents. Rather, her parents are in Bulgaria, and she lived with her wicked aunt & uncle here in the States. An aunt & uncle that believed Elena shouldn't be consorting with the male-types! O=
So the girls had told Elena's parents that they were trick-or-treating in Elena's neighbourhood, hence us picking them up there. But Elena's uncle noticed that it had been some time since he'd seen any other trick-or-treaters in that neighbourhood, so he called Oakley's parents to see if they had any insight into the situation. Oakley's parents for that matter, thought that nothing was afoot and the girls were supposed to be THERE, with such boys ... and so the parents talking was not good.
When we learned that Elena's uncle was on his way over and was extremely displeased, and generally doom was descending on the location, Alberto and I said our goodbyes and fled the scene in the Albertomobile.

As we were speeding back to Mission Viejo on Oso Boulevard, Alberto completely nailed a tall orange traffic pylon someone had placed in the middle of the street right where it crests a hill and curves sharply, such that the thing came out of nowhere. We thought this was a pretty awesome end of the evening -- as it gave us probably the biggest halloween night scare of our lives and did no actual damage.

The next day in Math class felt extremely awkward for me.
For the following month people would ask how long Elena & I'd been dating and without pausing to think I'd tell them the number of days -- girls thought this was really cute, but really it was just that since we'd started dating on the 31st, the date in november was always the number of days we'd been dating.
Alberto never had any success with Oakley, and in fact that evening was probably the high point of their relationship.
