45 in 45 II - 26 - The Blog is Out There
Jun. 26th, 2006 09:24 pm Today, the 26th day of 30 in 30 finds many of the surviving participants bitterly cursing the whole endeavour (Fittz, Pavel, Eazyt, Bartgroks...). And to think of all the comments I saw by people's friends at the beginning of the month of "30 blogs in 30 days, how hard can that be?" Fools! (The correct response of course is to challenge them to do it themselves). I killed Stumbleine the rat, Stunman the gelatinous cube, Xaositecte the goblin, Unoriginalmoron the floating eye, Bartgroks the arch-demon, Incomple the floating eye, Parisbaby the kobold, Madchenfittz the giant spider, Forrest441 the nymph, Deluxed the owlbear, Queensnags the troll, Shamster the minotaur, Mystiqmusic the gelatinous cube, Badbree the troll, Ruwan the nymph, Arjunsucks the zombie, Karebare004 the troll, Gerlx the zombie, Blueliquid13 the mind flayer, Jegskaltisse the troll, Shid the zombie, Suziej the orc, Wdsguy the gelatinous cube, Awwsuukisuuki the orc, Littlenick the fire elemental, Carmex02 the leprechaun, Dysfunk408 the owlbear, Yazzychicken the zombie, Prenox the kobold, Obisan69 the troll, Furzicle the giant spider, Frickeec the nymph, Otimus the rat, Bobolly the kobold, Alainedances the leprechaun, Impotent Dream the giant spider, Lizaabeja the zombie, Pavel Lishin the orc, EMD the feisty kitten, Mister Spooky the floating eye, Sameer the nymph, Jobeee the owlbear, Squeak the dragon, Malibu Knight the minotaur, Polishgodfather the rat, Orwell Troll the troll, Senatorroy the nymph, Gennadotorg the owlbear, Oeaschwab the floating eye, Roter Terror the kobold, Libpaul the nymph, Thepeoplesmp the giant spider, Zombiegodfather the gelatinous cube, Apoplecticfittz the giant spider and Empirestv the giant spider. I looted a Figurine of Xnotenoughx, the Crown of Jacketseason, the Axe of Kilkenny, the Sceptre of Donnie Darko, the Crown of Theuglyvolvo, a Figurine of Win1fortheloser, the Amulet of Alvin Tsao, the Sword of Viejo Liquor, a Figurine of Beatlebake, the Amulet of Basicallyasap, a Figurine of Daisycat99, the Armour of Donnie Darko, the Dagger of Justice, the Sceptre of Genuinesarcasm, the Sword of Ambivextrous, the Crown of Afoxygoddess, the Sceptre of Sharpies, a Figurine of Nerdrockliz, a Figurine of Toyourbitterend, a Figurine of Revchad, the Wand of Beingjames, the Sceptre of Ambrose Bierce, the Amulet of Feeshsauce, the Axe of Anteaters, the Shield of Megablogging and 1792 gold pieces. Score: 2942
Back before being a columnist for The California Aggie was constitutionally forbidden to me, I used to fret that being able to come up with something worth writing once a week would be too much of a strain. Eff that!
The first time I did 30 in 30 I didn't discover it until halfway through the month, and subsequently somehow managed to crank out 30 entries in 14 days. I really have no idea how I did that.
The second time I did it, I secretly blogged on right through half of July doing 45 in 45, and you know what, I'm probably going to keep going as long as I can again this year.
And then there are webcomic-ists (?). Many of them churn out a funny idea a day, five days a week, AND extensively illustrate it. Now THAT has got to be a heavy creative load. Well I guess this goes for normal newspaper cartoonists as well, but they get paid a lot more making it worthwhile.
And so, I urge you, despair not! The ideas are out there, and thirty in thirty just forces you to keep a lookout for them constantly through June.
Or at the very least, those of you who are rapidly despairing, it occured to me today that in extreme situations it would probably be acceptable to repost one of your best non-30 in 30 entries -- it would be better than another one of those "this is today's post!" posts. You know what I'm talking about. Those of us following 30 in 30 probably weren't paying attention when you had that moment of blogrevelation last year and created the ultimate entry, so its new to us.
In other news, I further staved off dipping into my reserve tank of ideas by discovering this meme today which is possibly the best meme I've ever come across:I escaped from the Dungeon of Emosnail!

Some highlights:
You are walking through a fog-shrouded maze of passages. A wooden sign warns of awkward silences.
...
You quaff the potion marked 'CITIZENE'. It tastes like psychobilly.
...
You find yourself in a derelict hall. Across one wall is a faded fresco of 30-blogs in 30-days.
Shid the zombie guards the eastern exit (37HP).
...
You find yourself in an abandoned torture chamber. Scrolls about 30-blogs in 30-days have been pinned to the walls.
...
You find yourself in a circular mausoleum. You notice a small shrine to steel reserve.
...
You quaff the potion marked 'JUSTICE'. It tastes foul.
...
You are in a torchlit tomb.
Discarded in a corner is the Shield of Megablogging.
...
Sameer seduces you into removing your armour.
...
Senatorroy seduces you into removing your armour. [the nymphs are always good for a laugh]
Entry of the Day: I suppose apoplecticfittz's was pretty good, even if it was a negative portrayel of 30 in 30 (therefore heretical!). Incidently, I began 30 in 30 with scurvey I think, but was cured because the blogging gods smile upon me! That or I didn't engage in acts of piracy for too long and thus 'the scurve' subsided.
