Shins Show

Today was the Shins show. It was excellent. The other two bands that played, Bishop Allen and the Decembrists.
I knew the term "Decembrists" was a reference to a historical Russian dissidant group, but nothing prepared me for the playing of the Soviet Anthem in full before they took the stage. I nearly swooned.
Unfortunately I couldn't make out the lyrics of very many songs - sound comes in a bit distorted when you're sitting between the speakers. My life is so difficult. (I was backstage for the whole show).
And almost as shocking as the playing of the soviet anthem: in the middle of their set, between songs, the Shins lead singer is talking and I'm not really paying attention but all of a sudden I hear "has anyone seen the guy with the green mohawk?" !!!

As if the day couldn't get any better, Azver happens to be around when I'm finally done with loadout around midnight and gives me a ride home.

In other news it turns out that Adrian, Azver and I all have best friends from out of town visiting this week. As such we've planned "Best Friend Night" for Friday and its gonna be awesome.
On that note, my extremely good friend AARON DAVIS is coming into town tomorrow (Wednesday) and will be here through Saturday. I ahven't even seen him in two years because he's been sailing around like a pirate (no really, he's been on the only commissioned US tall ship, the coast guard Eagle).

Exciting roommate bonding last night + Shins show today + soviet anthem at show + reference from the shins + aaron is coming to town = this is possibly the best week ever.

ok...am I capable of making a coherent sentence? Apparently not.
To clarify, I am jealous (but glad) you had so much fun at the Shins Show.

I heard it as something like:
"Thanks to Bishop Allen and The Decemberists... and UC Davis... and thanks to the guy with the green mohawk..."

Haha its highly possible. The full story actually is that all I heard was "...green mohawk" and was like WTF!? but everyone around me was too drunk to hear it so I couldn't confirm whether I had really heard "green mohawk" until after the show.

"he Decembrists" — aren't they mentioned in Cometbus somewhere?

Possibly but I have no recollection of it. If you tell me where abouts (in the Cometbus anthology) you recall it being I could do a cursory search.

I think I'm remembering his quasi-marxist band he was once in.. have no idea where it is mentioned. Creating a Cometbus entry on the Wiki is something that needs to be done. We also have a need for a Davis entry.

Hey Kris, I'm good by the way. I read your entry and had a bit of a flash back. I still remember quite vividly your sixth grade stories and how Mr....shit what was his name, Spencer?..really loved them. In them you used fake made up words. Boinks and hoozas and such. I was jealous of your talents at the time. An ability to create vivid imagery and fantastical tales! amazing to simple minded Janelle. Seems as thought those talents haven't quite left you. That's all. Funny how you met one of my best friends Mara huh. Peace out.

Mr Springer I think you mean?

I took a creative writing class last year. I wrote more or less in a normal style for most of the stories that were due to establish that I was capable of writing "normally," and then for the final paper I broke every "rule" of good short story writing we'd been taught, on purpose. The result of that was The Story of Boot. Incidentally there are no made up words in this story, but a number of people thought I'd included a lot of made-up words just because the ones I did were so unusual and vague.

Anyway, I'm still hoping to actually meet you one of these days when I'm back in OC

And your livejournal entries are pretty well written yourself. (=
